This Privacy Policy describes how Pocket Check LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Pocket Check mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you use Pocket Check, you may provide:
- Monthly income and budget targets you enter manually
- Bill and expense information you add to the App
- Chat messages and questions you submit to the AI financial coach
1.2 Financial Data via Plaid
Pocket Check uses Plaid Technologies, Inc. ("Plaid") to connect to your bank accounts. When you connect your bank:
- Plaid retrieves your account balances and recent transactions on your behalf
- Pocket Check receives read-only access. We cannot move, transfer, or modify your funds
- We do not store your bank login credentials. Those are handled entirely by Plaid
- Plaid's data practices are governed by Plaid's own Privacy Policy, available at plaid.com/legal
1.3 Device Information
We may collect limited device information including:
- Device token for push notifications (if you grant permission)
- App usage data for crash reporting and performance monitoring
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Pocket Check experience:
- To calculate your affordability score and provide Yes / No / Maybe verdicts
- To power the AI financial coach with context about your finances
- To track your budget targets and upcoming bills
- To send you reminders and nudges you explicitly request (e.g., "Remind me in 1 hour")
- To improve app performance and fix bugs
We do not use your financial data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the service you requested.
3. How We Store Your Information
Your financial data and chat history are stored locally on your device using secure storage. When you connect your bank account, a Plaid access token is stored on our backend server hosted by Railway (railway.app) solely for the purpose of retrieving your account data.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial information with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Third-Party Services
Pocket Check integrates with the following third-party services:
Plaid Technologies, Inc.
Used to securely connect your bank account and retrieve read-only transaction and balance data. Plaid is a trusted financial data provider used by thousands of apps. Learn more at plaid.com.
Anthropic (Claude AI)
Your chat messages and a summary of your financial context are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic does not store your data beyond the duration of each request. Learn more at anthropic.com/privacy.
Railway
Our backend server is hosted on Railway. Your Plaid access token is stored on this server. Railway's privacy policy is available at railway.app/legal/privacy.
Apple Push Notification Service (APNs)
Used to deliver reminders and nudges to your device if you grant notification permission.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- Bank credentials are never stored by Pocket Check, only a secure read-only Plaid access token
- Sensitive data on your device is stored using encrypted secure storage
- All communication between the App and our backend uses HTTPS encryption
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Disconnect Your Bank
You can disconnect your bank account at any time from within the App. Upon disconnection, your Plaid access token is deleted from our servers and we will no longer retrieve your financial data.
6.2 Delete Your Data
You can clear all locally stored data at any time from the Settings screen within the App. To request deletion of any data stored on our servers, contact us at the email below.
6.3 Push Notifications
You can disable push notifications at any time through your device's Settings app.
7. Children's Privacy
Pocket Check is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you through the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
